Description: Barite, also spelled baryte, is a mineral composed of Barium, Sulfur, and Oxygen. Barium is extremely low on the periodic table, and thusly has extremely high density. As a result, barite weighs significantly more than most other other minerals of the same size - for example, the weight per cubic centimeter of barite is just under double that of quartz. 

The cause of blue coloration in barite is the presence of trace amounts of iron. Iron  substitutes for some of the barium ions in the crystal lattice, and this substitution can result in a blue or bluish tint to the mineral. 

Some of these specimens are small clustered rosettes of tabular (flat) blade-like crystals, while others display barites prysmatic crystal habit, with sharp blocky blades with well defined faces and corners.

Blue is often linked to the Throat Chakra, as it is the color associated with communication and self-expression. The blue hues in blue barite can be seen as complementary to this chakra, potentially supporting clarity in communication and emotional expression. This chakra is associated with communication, expression, and the ability to speak one's truth. It is located in the throat area and is believed to influence how we express ourselves verbally and non-verbally.
