描述

Mined from: Touissit mining district, Oriental Region, Morocco

Description: This specimen features classic scalenohedral calcite crystals, commonly referred to as “dogtooth” calcite due to their sharply pointed, elongated triangular forms. The crystals show a warm amber to honey-brown coloration, caused by iron oxide inclusions and surface staining, with some areas retaining a lighter, milky calcite base. These crystals formed in open cavities within a hydrothermal system, where calcium-rich fluids deposited calcite over time, allowing the crystals to grow freely into well-defined, pointed structures. The rough, earthy coating seen on parts of the specimen reflects later-stage mineralization or sediment contact during formation.

Moroccan deposits, particularly around Touissit, are well known for producing high-quality dogtooth calcite often associated with lead-zinc mineralization. The presence of iron staining and the layered base suggests multiple phases of mineral growth, where earlier calcite crystallized and was later exposed to mineral-rich fluids or oxidation. This gives the piece both structural depth and color variation, making it more visually dynamic than cleaner, colorless calcite specimens.

Metaphysically, dogtooth calcite is often associated with clarity and forward movement. Its pointed crystal habit is thought to direct energy outward, helping with focus, decision-making, and clearing mental stagnation. Many are drawn to it as a stone that encourages momentum while maintaining a grounded, steady approach.
