Description: This one-of-a-kind Holly Blue agate is a 9.65 carat freeform step tablet cut, a flat stone with a broad table on both the front and the back, each ringed by step facets, and a thin girdle. It has a six-sided freeform outline faceted with parallel step facets around a broad table. Alternating bands of violet and slate-grey lavender stripe across the translucent stone.
Holly Blue (also spelled Holley Blue) is a rare lavender to violet-blue chalcedony, a form of microcrystalline quartz. It formed in seams and pockets within volcanic rock, and it is prized by collectors and cutters for its soft, glowing translucency.
Holly Blue agate comes only from the Holley area near Sweet Home, in Linn County, Oregon, and is one of the most sought-after American agates. The original deposit sits on private timberland that has been closed to collecting since the late 1990s, and trespassers have been cited. With no legal digging, almost all Holly Blue on the market today is old stock, which makes every piece a finite collectible. It is natural and untreated.
In crystal traditions, Holly Blue agate is often associated with calm, clear communication and spiritual awareness. These associations come from spiritual and folk traditions rather than scientifically established properties.
