Rubble Rock and Gem – Vancouver, BC
Full-Time | On-Site
Rubble Rock and Gem is hiring a Retail Supervisor for our storefront.
This is not a passive retail job.
This is a leadership role inside an established, fast-moving business.
If you love rocks, enjoy responsibility, and can handle real accountability — read on.
First Things First
You must genuinely care about rocks, minerals, fossils, or lapidary.
If you’re not interested in the product, this job will frustrate you and it won’t work. Don’t fake it. Don’t apply because you “just need something.” We’re building something real here.
What This Role Actually Is
You will:
- Oversee retail staff on shift
- Maintain standards and enforce SOPs
- Solve daily problems independently
- Handle operational gaps when they arise
- Assist the owner with execution and logistics
- Step in wherever needed to keep the business moving
Some days you’ll be leading the storefront.
Other days you’ll be organizing inventory, updating the website, printing labels, driving recycling to the transfer station, or solving a random issue that popped up.
If that kind of variety stresses you out — this isn’t the role.
What I Expect
1. Competence with Computers
You should comfortably know how to:
- Use Excel or Google Sheets
- Navigate Google Drive
- Place online orders
- Send professional emails
- Learn new systems quickly
If basic tech slows you down, this won’t be a good fit.
2. Confidence & Problem Solving
Management is problem solving.
You should:
- Make decisions when needed
- Ask smart questions when you genuinely don’t know
- Not spin your wheels trying to prove something
- Be efficient with company time
If I give you a clear directive, I expect it executed properly.
3. People Skills (The Real Kind)
This doesn’t mean being bubbly.
It means:
- Being fair
- Being honest
- Treating everyone with respect
- Resolving staff or customer issues directly
- Maintaining professionalism at all times
We do not tolerate workplace drama, favoritism, or blurred boundaries.
4. Commitment
This role takes months to fully settle into.
If you’re planning to move next year, unsure about your path, or testing the waters — this isn’t for you.
If you love rocks and want to grow inside a business that’s expanding, there’s real opportunity here.
5. Strong Memory & Organization
We process around 10,000 transactions per year.
I run multiple businesses. Things move quickly.
You must:
- Learn fast
- Retain information
- Take organized notes
- Follow through on instructions
I don’t micromanage — but I do expect competence.
6. Leadership Presence
You are a supervisor.
That means:
- Holding staff accountable
- Keeping the workplace productive
- Stepping up when needed
- Not getting flustered under pressure
There are busy days. There are stressful moments. The job is to stay steady and effective.
Daily Responsibilities Include:
- Supervising retail floor operations
- Supporting and monitoring staff performance
- Opening/closing procedures
- Handling customer interactions
- Receiving and processing inventory
- Labeling and merchandising
- Website product uploads
- Printing signage
- Organizing back rooms
- Sorting receipts and basic admin tasks
- Communicating with customers about shipments
This is a multi-faceted role.
You are both supervisor and hands-on contributor.
Growth Potential
If you prove capable, there is room to grow within the company. I value initiative. If you see ways to:
- Save money
- Improve systems
- Increase revenue
- Improve workflow
Bring them forward.
Part or Full Time: 2-5 Days per week
Wage: TBD
