Description
Mined from: Daye Mine, Huangshi, Hubei Province, China
Description: This specimen is a tight cluster of tabular calcite crystals, arranged in overlapping, angular growth that gives the piece a compact but highly dimensional look. The crystals are clear to slightly milky, with broad, flat faces that catch light in a soft, glassy way. Running through many of these faces are bold, dark linear bands that cut cleanly across the crystal planes, creating a strong contrast against the pale calcite and emphasizing the geometry of the growth.
These bands are chalcopyrite inclusions that formed during an earlier stage of mineralization within the hydrothermal system. Sulfide-rich fluids deposited chalcopyrite along fractures or growth surfaces, and as calcite crystallized afterward, it sealed these layers inside. The result is a series of sharp, parallel lines that follow the crystal structure, often intersecting at angles that reflect the twin formation. This “Mercedes-style” pattern is a hallmark of material from the Daye Mine and is prized for its clean, graphic appearance.
Metaphysically, calcite is often associated with mental clarity and organization, while chalcopyrite is linked to motivation and energy. Together, they are believed to support structured thinking paired with action, helping ideas move from concept into execution.
