Description: This Rough Thunder Egg from Oregon, U.S.A. is intended for lapidary use, including cutting, slabbing, polishing, cabochon making, display faces, and collector projects. Thunder Eggs are rounded volcanic nodules that often contain agate, chalcedony, jasper, quartz, or druzy pockets inside. From the outside, they usually look plain, rough, and earthy, but once cut open they can reveal banding, colour zones, crystal pockets, mossy patterns, or scenic interiors.
Thunder Eggs are strongly associated with Oregon and are one of the state’s best-known lapidary materials. They formed in volcanic rock when gas pockets or cavities were later filled with silica-rich minerals such as agate, chalcedony, jasper, and quartz. Oregon Thunder Eggs are popular with rockhounds and lapidary artists because each piece cuts differently, making them good material for saw work, polishing practice, specimen halves, and one of a kind display pieces.
Thunder Eggs are often associated with grounding, protection, stability, and inner strength. Because they can look rough on the outside while holding colourful patterns inside, they are also commonly connected with patience, hidden potential, and personal growth.
