Description: This one-of-a-kind smoky quartz is a 5.35 carat freeform flatback step cut. In plain words, it has a step-cut faceted crown on top and a flat polished back underneath. The broad, flat table is framed by stepped bevels that glow in soft smoky brown tones, with gentle colour zoning shifting from smoky grey-brown to a paler champagne tone across the stone. The flat back also makes it a great blank for reverse intaglio carving.
Smoky quartz is the brown to grey variety of quartz. Its colour comes from natural irradiation acting on trace aluminium within the crystal. At a hardness of 7 it is durable enough for everyday jewelry.
In crystal traditions, smoky quartz is often associated with grounding and letting go of stress. These associations come from spiritual and folk traditions rather than scientifically established properties.
