Description: This one-of-a-kind smoky quartz is a 21.80 carat round tablet cut, with a broad flat table on top and a flat polished back underneath. Gentle colour zoning shows in the girdle band, shifting between paler and deeper smoky brown-grey. At over 20 carats it is a substantial, eye-catching stone, and its flat back makes it a great blank for reverse intaglio carving.
Smoky quartz is the brown to grey variety of quartz. Its colour comes from natural irradiation acting on trace aluminium within the crystal. At a hardness of 7 it is durable enough for everyday jewelry.
In crystal traditions, smoky quartz is often associated with grounding. These associations come from spiritual and folk traditions rather than scientifically established properties.
