Description
Origin: Katanga Region, Democratic Republic of Congo
Description: This rough natural citrine is a yellow to golden variety of quartz, colored by trace amounts of iron within the crystal structure. Unlike heat-treated amethyst, natural citrine typically shows softer, more uneven coloration ranging from pale yellow to smoky golden tones. In rough form, these crystals often display classic quartz habits with pointed terminations and varying clarity, sometimes with internal veils or inclusions.
This material forms in hydrothermal quartz veins, where silica-rich fluids circulate through fractures in host rock and slowly crystallize as temperatures decrease. The yellow coloration develops due to iron impurities that are naturally present during crystal growth and later influenced by mild geological heating. Deposits in the Congo are known for producing natural citrine that retains its original formation characteristics without artificial enhancement.
Citrine is often associated with energy, confidence, and forward momentum. Its warm color gives it an active, uplifting presence, and many people are drawn to it as a stone that represents productivity and steady progress toward goals.
