Description: This one-of-a-kind Oregon sunstone is a 2.50 carat trillion fantasy cut, a triangular faceted stone with rounded bubble-like hollows carved into the surface and small notches cut along its edges. It shows a pale yellow body colour with soft orange and red tones and a cloud of fine copper schiller near the centre, and the carved bubbles create a playful pattern of reflections throughout the stone. It was cut in Vancouver, British Columbia by Broken Ox Creations. The rough was dug at the Spectrum Sunstone Mine near Plush, Oregon, by the owner of Rubble Rock and Gem. Watch the dig in “My Oregon Sunstone Trip” on YouTube.

Oregon Sunstone is a copper-bearing labradorite feldspar that formed within ancient basaltic lava flows in southeastern Oregon. Copper incorporated into the feldspar is responsible for the distinctive yellow, orange, red, green, and copper-toned colours found in this material, and tiny copper platelets can produce a glittering effect known as schiller. The best-known deposits occur in the remote high desert around Plush, Oregon, and Oregon Sunstone is the official state gemstone of Oregon. Mining remains closely tied to relatively small independent mines and cutters today.

Metaphysically, Sunstone is associated with confidence, independence, vitality, optimism, and personal direction. It is often used as a symbolic stone for self-reliance, motivation, and moving forward with greater clarity and purpose. These associations come from spiritual and crystal traditions rather than scientifically established properties.
