General Manager
Rubble Rock and Gem (Vancouver, BC)
Full-Time | On-Site
The Short Version
Rubble Rock and Gem is hiring a manager.
You don’t need to know rocks.
You need to know management.
I’m looking for someone with real leadership experience — someone who can run the day-to-day, keep standards high, keep staff motivated, and make executive decisions when I’m away.
This is not a cashier job with a fancy title.
This is a “run the place like it’s yours” job.
About the Businesses
Rubble Rock and Gem has been a brick-and-mortar business for 6 years. We sell:
-
minerals, crystals, and fossils
-
rough rock for cutting
-
lapidary tools and stone processing equipment
We also operate:
-
a second business 400 feet away: an art studio rental building (20 studios we sublease)
-
a teaching studio we’re currently building out (classes in jewelry, art, stonework, and more)
The team is good. We have SOPs, assigned roles, and structure.
But as the business expands, I’m traveling more and more, and I need someone who can hold the fort down properly — not just keep the lights on.
What I Actually Need
I need a manager who can:
-
make decisions without freezing
-
enforce standards without being weird about it
-
keep morale and workplace culture strong
-
keep people working when the owner isn’t physically there
-
follow through on delegated tasks (this is huge)
-
take projects from “idea” to “completed”
-
report back to me weekly with the real highlights
You’ll be working directly with me. I’m not going to dump you in the deep end — I’ll train you, I’ll be available, and I’m invested in setting you up for success.
But I need someone I can genuinely rely on.
Weekly Structure
This role is split between two locations:
-
3 days/week: Rock shop operations + staff oversight
-
2 days/week: Art studio operations + teaching studio support
Everything is within walking distance.

-
keeping the workplace positive, respectful, and productive

-
keeping the store running smoothly day-to-day
-
ensuring SOPs are followed
-
keeping things organized and efficient

-
handling day-to-day issues that come up
-
keeping the building functioning and professional
Teaching Studio Growth
-
helping build out systems for class scheduling
-
supporting instructors and logistics
-
helping take this from “in progress” to “fully running”
Projects
You’ll be given projects through a task management app.
Your job isn’t just to “do tasks.”
Your job is to make sure things actually get completed properly, including checking up on employees you delegate work to.
Who This Role Is For
This job is for someone who:
-
has real management experience
-
is confident making decisions
-
can lead without being a dictator

Required Experience
-
5+ years in management, operations, or leadership
-
experience supervising staff
-
experience handling scheduling, performance, and daily operations
-
comfort with admin work, systems, and task management tools
Important: Leadership Question
During the hiring process, I will ask you:
“What does leadership mean to you?”
If you don’t have a real answer, this probably isn’t the right role.
Pay
Pay will be competitive and based on experience.
This is a serious role with room to grow.
