Description: This display piece is made out of Ammonite and Orthoceras fossils. There is one ammonite on the top surrounded by two giant orthoceras fossils with fossils throughout. This piece is a statement in any home and a guaranteed conversation starter. It could be used as a paperweight, bookend, display piece, ect.

Ammonites are an extinct form of mollusk that thrived in the seas during the time of the dinosaurs and are related to squid. Ammonites were born with tiny shells and, as they grew, they built new chambers onto them. They would move their entire body into the new chamber and seal off the old smaller chamber. 

The ancestor of the squid, Orthoceras shells range in length from a few inches to over six feet. Their middle body chamber is transversely constricted, and that would help them crawl across the ocean floor and swim. Orthoceras could float by filling chambers of their shells with air and they used jet propulsion by squirting water to move. 

The fossils of this piece are 100% genuine and real, but they have been laminated onto the host rock backing for better presentation.
