Description: This Carnelian slab tumble from China displays rich tones of orange, amber, and red within a semi-translucent chalcedony base. Each piece is cut into a thin, irregular slab and tumbled smooth, allowing the stone’s natural banding and color gradients to remain visible. Chinese sources, particularly from Liaoning and Xinjiang, are known for producing Carnelian with exceptional depth of color and internal glow.

Carnelian is a quartz-rich variety of chalcedony that forms through the slow deposition of silica in volcanic and sedimentary environments. Iron oxide impurities create its warm coloration, while subtle agate-like banding develops as mineral layers build over time. The slab form offers a broader surface area than typical tumbles, enhancing its natural luster and revealing detailed internal patterns shaped by millions of years of geologic activity.

Historically, Carnelian has been valued for its association with vitality and focus. Beyond these symbolic meanings, it remains a striking example of silica-based mineral formation—an enduring material that connects color, chemistry, and craftsmanship in a single polished stone.
