Description

Mined from: British Columbia, Canada

Description: Nephrite jade is a tough, fibrous variety of the amphibole mineral actinolite, composed primarily of calcium, magnesium, and iron silicate. Its interlocking crystal structure gives it exceptional toughness—making it one of the most durable natural materials known. Nephrite forms in metamorphic environments where calcium-rich rocks are altered by hydrothermal fluids, producing the familiar shades of green, grey, and creamy white. When shaped into a worry stone, its dense, waxy texture and cool feel make it ideal for both tactile and aesthetic use.

British Columbia is one of the world’s leading sources of nephrite jade, particularly in regions such as the Cassiar and Fraser River areas. The province’s deposits are part of ancient serpentinized ultramafic rock belts, formed through tectonic activity along the Pacific margin. BC jade has been traded globally since the mid-20th century and remains highly valued for its fine texture, deep green color, and exceptional polish. Historically, nephrite was used by Indigenous peoples of the region for tools and ornaments long before it became an export gem.

Metaphysically, nephrite jade is associated with protection, balance, and well-being. It is said to promote calm and resilience, symbolizing harmony between body and mind and encouraging steady, grounded energy.
