Description: Globidens is a genus of mosasaur, which were large, extinct marine reptiles that lived during the Late Cretaceous period, approximately 70 to 66 million years ago. Mosasaurs, including Globidens, were apex predators of the Late Cretaceous oceans, feeding on a variety of prey, including fish, marine reptiles, cephalopods (such as ammonites and squid), and other marine organisms. Globidens mosasaurs were relatively large, with some species reaching lengths of up to 6 to 7 meters (20 to 23 feet).
Like other mosasaurs, Globidens had elongated bodies, long tails, and powerful jaws filled with deadly teeth. What sets Globidens apart from other mosasaurs is its unique dentition. Instead of long, sharp teeth, Globidens had rounded, globular teeth adapted for crushing hard-shelled prey such as mollusks and other marine invertebrates found on the seafloor. The name Globidens means globe-toothed in referenced to this specialized shape.
