Description: This one of a kind Grallator footprint fossil from Middletown, Connecticut preserves a three-toed dinosaur track in dark grey sedimentary stone from the famous Connecticut River Valley track beds. Grallator is not the name of the dinosaur itself, but the track type left behind by small, bipedal theropod dinosaurs walking across soft mud roughly 200 million years ago. The raised shape seen here is likely a natural cast, formed when sediment filled the original footprint and later hardened.

This specimen shows a strong central toe impression with two narrower side toe marks, giving it the classic bird-like theropod shape associated with Grallator tracks. Fossils from this region are usually tied to the Portland Formation, a well-known Early Jurassic rock unit in Connecticut and Massachusetts that preserves dinosaur activity from ancient lakeshore and floodplain environments. Spiritually, fossil footprints are often valued as symbols of movement, direction, and leaving a mark behind; this piece has that quiet “something walked here before us” weight without needing to dress it up too much.
