Description

Locality: Madagascar

Description: Kambaba Jasper, also called crocodile jasper, is a dark green and black stone with round, orb-like markings, polished smooth into a palm stone.

About the Stone: Kambaba Jasper is a volcanic rock, not a fossil. Thin-section and XRD analysis by the German gem lab EPI identified it as rhyolite made of quartz, aegirine pyroxene and feldspars; the dark orbs are clusters of radiating amphibole needles.

Chemical Composition: Rhyolite: quartz, feldspars and aegirine pyroxene, with amphibole orbs (mixed rock, no single formula)
