Description: Smoky quartz is quartz (silicon dioxide) coloured by natural radiation. Traces of aluminium replace some silicon in the crystal, and over long periods, low-level radiation from surrounding rock turns those sites into colour centres that absorb light, producing the brown-to-grey smoky tones. Strong heating can remove the colour. These spheres range from light to dark grey.
In Crystal Lore: In crystal lore, smoky quartz is traditionally associated with grounding, focus and letting go of what is no longer needed. Some believe it guards a home and keeps the mood of a room steady. It is linked with the root chakra and, in zodiac traditions, with Capricorn, Scorpio and Sagittarius.
